Its official, Ultra Violet 18-3838 is Pantone’s colour of the year for 2018. Purple has often been used over the centuries to suggest opulence, has religious connections and seen itself associated with many rock stars and bands over the decades – think of Deep Purple, David Bowie and of course his purple highness himself; Prince. So, expect to see an emergence of the rich hue across everything, from websites to packaging. On its own purple can be a little overpowering, so choosing the right hue to balance it with will prove really important. Pantone are here to help with this and have created a number of different palettes that include combinations of bright chilli hues, deep greys and soft blues and pinks.
Whether you are a fan of Ultra Violet or not, colour plays a vitally important role. According to Pantone, each colour has a specific psychology, emotion and even a sense of power that has an impact on the individual viewing it. Getting the right mix can really impact on how your customers engage with your brand, whether you run a restaurant or bar or an office.
Getting the right colour choices will be essential for your signage, whether you’re looking to create something bold that really stands out from the competition or a more understated look. Ideally the colours used on the exterior signage should extend through into the interior for a consistent brand experience.
